Travel Q&A

Welcome \ Travel \ Eco-Tourism

Underwater AdventureMany travelers interested in eco-tourism will want to visit less developed provinces of Thailand. But there are places on the island where eco-tourists can revel in the natural surroundings. Scuba diving off the west coast of Phuket Island is one of the best ways to appreciate the natural beauty of the coral reefs and aquatic life in the warm waters of the Andaman. There are also many scuba tours available to other islands such as the Similans, which are famous as one of the top scuba diving destinations in the world.

If camping on a nearly deserted beach is more to your taste than being pampered in a luxury resort, you may want to explore Nai Yang or Mai Khao beaches in the Sirinat National Park in the northwest of Phuket.

There are well maintained trails in Khao Pra Taew Wildlife Park, the last refuge of some of the indigenous wildlife, where trekkers can enjoy hiking through the jungle, and numerous tour operators offer treks on elephant back. The island has also been described as a paradise for mountain bikers who like to take in the scenery and atmosphere of the tropical island and get some good exercise at the same time.

Most serious rock climbers will want to challenge the limestone cliffs of nearby Krabi province, but they can practice on one of the climbing towers in Phuket.

Other activities for health conscious tourists who want to absorb the natural beauty of the island and its surroundings include snorkeling, swimming, horseback riding, and especially sea-canoeing or kayaking.
