The province of Loei is an
example of the Isaan culture that prevails in northeastern
Thailand. With its rich history and strong Buddhist traditions
Loei, which was once a remote and isolated area, gives the
visitor an opportunity to experience Thailand in an unspoiled
and pure form.
Legends
say that the ancestors of the people of Loei were a group
of Thai people who moved from Yonok Nakhon kingdom, in southern
China, and settled the area. Loei was upgraded to a province
in 1854, during the reign of King Rama IV.
