The
population of the province is predominantly Buddhist. In rural
areas people tend to be very devout, and their belief system
includes elements of animism and ancestor worship. Along the
intensively developed gulf coast many people practice a more
secular form of Buddhism, but still honor the precepts and
rituals. The large and influential Thai-Chinese minority also
follows the teachings of the Buddha, as well as venerating
Taoist and Confucian shrines and sacred places.
